OK - I wasn't going to blog about my tooth problem...nobody wants to hear whining and "woe is me" chatter...so I apologize. But for the past week or so, I have been dealing with extreme tooth pain. The diagnosis? Not sure. Nothing shows up on the x-ray. But the two (yes, two) dentists I have seen suspects a fractured molar wa-a-a-a-y in the back. I must agree, since every time I bite down on anything, a jarring jab of pain shoots through my head and jaw. That's on a good day. On bad days, I wake up with the right side of my head throbbing in pain. Add that to the pain when I bite down...well, you get the picture. The solution? Root canal. OK - I've done root canal before. Not fun. And I don't anticipate it being easier since the offending tooth is wa-a-a-a-y in the back. Picture me with jaw WIDE open for too long a period of time...no thanks. I'm not even going to discuss the cost of this procedure. You all know what we're talking about here.Another option? PULL IT OUT! Yes, I thought that was the best option, too. Pull it out, all done, case closed, thank you, ma'am. HAH! I have called area oral surgeons (first I discovered that normal, every-day dentists do NOT pull teeth) and have heard "sorry, we are booked until August." AUGUST?!?!? No, no, I have pain! Lots of pain! An I can't bite down. I can't chew! Nothing! I am eating cream soups and drinking chocolate milk. Yummy. I rant and rave at my dentist - but there's nothing he can do. And, of course, it's also a holiday week so many of the dentists I called (yes, I called most of the yellow pages under "dental") are on vacation this week.
So - I am on amoxicillin and have a prescription for another antibiotic that has side effects listed that seem worse than the throbbing head and jaw pain (believe it or not!). I'll try ttaking one tonight so if I start experiencing the nausea, dizziness, metallic taste in my mouth, depression, etc. etc., I'll be at home tomorrow - but I can't drink alcohol while on these meds either - and that was my pain reliever of choice! So - I have an appointment for August 3rd for a sedated extraction. Yes. Sedate me. Make it all go away. July is going to be such a fun month...really fun.
