Hughesville and surrounding townships - located in the extreme southeastern corner of Lycoming County For the past month or so, I have been searching, borrowing, scanning, returning, and researching photos and postcards relating to my hometown of Hughesville.
I've been talking to some of the most senior citizens in town, asking them to relate their memories of long ago...
Just last night, I was talking to one of the elderly ladies about the wild roses and sweet peas that our families had growing in their gardens. Those are flowers that you don't see much anymore. I've been listening to stories about one-room schools and taking train rides up to Sullivan County, where Lake Mokoma offered a relaxing respite from the drudgery of hard living on the farm.
