Stacey and I started reading the Nicholas Sparks books after the first one...the infamous The Notebook...which he wrote in 1996. Fast reads, but long enough that you inevitably read too late into the evening, finish them sometime in the dead of night, and wake up with a wet pillow (sob!). On my trip to the library last week to get "North by Northwest" - yes the old movie - I grabbed two Sparks books, The Choice and Dear John.Just finished The Choice last night...during the first two-thirds of the book, I was a bit disappointed with the story - although it was a lovely narrative about Travis and Gabby falling in love. However, the final third of the book takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions with plot twists and turns...powerful ending! The "choice" is not the one you first assume it to be!

I haven't read this one yet. But I just saw Nights in Rodanthe in the theater, and I was actually pleasantly suprised at how good it was! Let's all be honest, Sparks novels don't translate very well to screen, but Richard Gere and Diane Lane actually did pretty well with what they had. And I liked the director; there were some very interesting and artistic shots that livened up the visuals and made them more unique.

I saw Nights in Rodanthe in the theater, and I cried my eyes out. Definitely go see it if you're in the mood for a tear-jerker!
