Lawn Party

Today was a day my mom has been looking forward to - it was the 23rd annual Lawn Party at the hospital. Lots of food, crafts, chinese auction, silent art auction and wonderful music! The day was perfect...warm (in the high 80s) but there was a breeze blowing and the humidity was low. I brought her a hat to wear, we dug her sunglasses out of her purse - and we were ready to go! I wheeled her out into the sunshine, found the food booths, and decided what to eat. BBQ sandwich, french fries, baked beans, ice tea and fresh strawberries with cream to top it off. She enjoyed the shade under the big tents and listened to the conversations...and finally, she said she was getting full. We strolled around and around, listening to some music and then I spotted the ice cream tent. I pulled her wheelchair under the canopy and asked what kind they had for sale. "What kind would you like??" I took a chance and said "Teaberry" - my mom's favorite. Like magic, the gentleman said, "We've got it!" I turned to my mom and asked "Are you too full for teaberry ice cream?" "Oh, no!" she replied...there's always room for ice cream - especially teaberry! I found a seat and we spent about a half hour enjoying that ice cream. She enjoyed every spoonful and every minute that she spent outside. It was a good day!
