The other day, I started thinking about the journey I have taken, both geographically and emotionally. I think about the years I spent in Connecticut often - between '79 and '03 - and the friends I made, the variety of people I met as my children grew and matured in a little town called Bolton. It is a rural suburb of Hartford, which is more similar than dissimilar to many rural suburbs in PA...
Anyway, I found the website to Bolton schools and scrolled through the names of the teachers that I know who were still teaching there. Sadly, many of them have retired or moved on to other schools, but many familiar names were still on the list. I decided to write them all a note to tell them how much I appreciate their contribution to the education and development of my children and to give them a little update on them.
So far, I've heard from Jacquie's & Stacey's kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Kemp, and their fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Obuchowski, who introduced them to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz series of books. Today, one of the school secretaries wrote to tell me that her daughter, Julie, who was one of Jacquie's best friends, has also gotten married.
Overall, they were grateful to hear a "thank you" and some simple words of appreciation - something a lot of teachers don't hear enough. And when you think about it, your kids' teachers are extremely influential in their lives and I'm so glad that Bolton had some of the best!

Awww Joan, that's so thoughtful. I'm sure you made their day. My friend is a struggling second grade teacher. I know a note like that would make her day.
