Grandma's treasures...Stacey's new retro wardrobe...

Cleaning out mom's house has been an adventure full of discoveries and memories. We've gone through boxes and drawers full of musty papers; trunks full of fabric and furs; and occasionally, we've found a dress or some suits that mom wore when she was around 25 or 30 years old. That's the 1940s & 50s. Before she & daddy got together, pictures were taken of her in her overalls or a simple cotton dress - appropriate for a working farm girl. But once mom & dad met, she starting dressing up. The things that we found that were still in good shape are pictured below - Stacey wanted them dry-cleaned...she is hoping to wear the suits in DC on the job. The party dress below will be quite a hit at a Capitol cocktail party, don't you think?

This is Stacey's grandma wearing the blue suit pictured below.

The best part of this suit is the pleating in the back at the waistline.

And here is a light wool brown suit (by the way, the waist in the suit skirts measures 28 inches...)
I'm not sure if Stacey will like this wool cape. She'll be here on Friday to check it out. It may end up at the Salvation Army...

Hands off. You can have the cape though. The other stuff I can pull of as retro sheik but I don't think green plaid is quite the capitol style.
