First of all, let me say that I really like my doctor. He's friendly and personable and he really listens to me and we talk about how sh*tty is has been to turn 50. On May 1, I had an appointment with him for a physical and to run those tests that are recommended every year. I was dismayed to learn that my blood pressure has gone up a bit (I have always had low BP). Dr. M. said that it was due to my age...So I had the usual PAP test, blood drawn, and a mammogram scheduled. OK - so Dr. M. called me a week later - at home around 8 p.m. - and said that there was an 'anomaly' in my PAP test. I won't go into all the details but I had to get an ultrasound done...That was bad enough but on the same day that the ultrasound was scheduled, the clinic called to talk to me about an 'anomaly' with my mammogram. Seriously... on the same day. So after the ultrasound was completed, I drive over to the mammogram clinic to get another scan done. With their digital equipment now, they can immediately tell you if there is anything serious. Yep...there was. I had calcifications and they wanted to do a biopsy. Next thing I know, I am being handed a box of tissues and a glass of ice water. Apparently, it was a little too much for me and I needed to have a good cry. I felt better afterwards but the uncertainty of it all just hit me...
So I had the biopsy last Thursday (what a fun experience that was!), and everything is fine. The ultrasound also came back negative. It's been a rough couple of weeks with all of the testing and waiting for the results to come back. The point of this whole story? Schedule regular checkups and physicals! If there is something wrong, it's better to know sooner than later!

Good morning Joan -
I read this, dress sans deodorant as this is the morning of my mammogram. This will be the first one since menstruation has stopped, so I'm curious if there are any changes. Then, next week I've got the ob-gyn visit - what fun to be a girl. But I heartily agree that prevention is worth every bit of discomfort, annoyance, whatever.
To our continued health and the maintenance of it!!!
Barbara
