change is good...

As far as I know, there is no law imposed by anyone - including Martha Stewart/Ann Landers/Emily Post or others - that requires a house to have a formal dining room. Am I correct? In this day & age, meals eaten at home are quick, uncomplicated (as in one course!), and easy to consume. Although I sometimes miss eating at the table with the kids (I know, I know, it's kind of hard to do that since all of our kids are not home anymore!), I find that the way Steve & I eat dinner is very handy. No muss, no fuss, just relax in the recliner, pull up the TV tray and dig in! It's part of the routine...we usually eat around 7:00 PM watching an old rerun of Friends and then Jeopardy at 7:30.
Last night before I could bring the Christmas tree down to decorate, we concluded that we had to dismantle the dining room table and take it upstairs with the 6 chairs in order to make room for the tree! We have accumulated a few more pieces of furniture from my mom in the past year and there was no room to move anything around. So out went the table and chairs...and poof!...a wonderful sitting room appeared out of nowhere! The hutch is still there (couldn't move that upstairs!), we now have the tree, a rocking chair, a couple of assorted little chests of drawers, and the computer table and chair in the former dining room. Now, there is actually a clear path to walk through the room without bumping into chairs or maneuvering around obstacles. Love it, love it!
Now, I only have to convince Steve that we really don't need the table and chairs (or perhaps I can sort of conveniently not bring them back downstairs next month...).
